The Anointing of Abigail

by Daryl O’Neil
When we look into the Holy Scriptures, we see many individuals from whom we may learn from their walk with God and their dealings with others. Abigail is just one such a person to learn from. I want to encourage my sisters in Christ with this article. I want to simply remind you, in Christ you are a queen called to rule and reign.
In this exhortation, we will examine the life of Abigail. Abigail has locked within her life spiritual treasures of great value. I want to submit her life as a model of dealing with adversity and foolishness in relationships and coming forth as a queen. Abigail is also a prophetic picture of how to deal with people who are behaving foolishly and the proper mentality necessary to deal with fools. For some this may be strong language, but nevertheless reality.
For scriptural reference read (1Samuel 25:1-42).
Abigail’s name means “my father rejoices”. I believe all daughters in Christ need to know, the Heavenly Father is rejoicing over YOU!
When God makes covenant with an individual He changes their name. The change of name also reflects a change of nature. Today, I decree and prophesy my sisters, your NEW name is Abigail. There is a nature exchange taking place as you read these words, which will release you to walk in dominion over foolish situations and people. Can we talk?
Abigail found herself in a situation many females who are married have found themselves in, married to Nabal. The name Nabal means fool, uncouth, churlish, stubborn and ill-mannered. There are other women who find themselves dealing with foolish people. When attacked by foolishness, Abigail shows us just what to do to get the victory!!
I want to submit to you five things that I gleaned from this story necessary to deal with foolish people. When the anointing of Abigail comes upon you will win over fools and foolishness. You go girl!
First of all, she was fine!…..when satan is trying to beat you down with thoughts that you are ugly, no one wants you, your shape is not the way you may want it, the anointing of Abigail should rise up within you to remind you; you are fearfully wonderfully made and the Father is rejoicing over you. You are not rejected, you are accepted in the beloved. You are a daughter of the Most High. (1Sam 25:3). You have to know who you are in Christ in order to deal with a fool. Abigail was beautiful. So are you!
Second, she was a woman of wisdom & intelligence. She had the ability to oversee the large estate of her husband. The Lord’s desire for his modern day Abigail’s is that they would not become distracted by the foolishness of mankind, but that they would give themselves to meditating in the wisdom of God, that they may be prepared to shine as a light of God’s glory in life’s tough situations. Her husband was uncouth, mean, and did not appreciate her, but she stayed in the right spirit and it caused her to spare her own life. (1Samuel 25:18) Bitterness and anger at the way he behaved would open the door to her own sickness, disease, or demise. Don’t get bitter, get better!
Thirdly, she was a woman of humility. Vs 23. Her husband had insulted David and his men, who were partly responsible for some of the wealth that Nabal had accumulated and David was going to kill all of them. Sometimes in order for God to intervene in a situation that seems destined for disaster we must humble ourselves...the principle of humbling ourselves on behalf of our spouse or the foolish individual will bring the victory in the eyes of God the Father. Her humility left room for God to get involved. God’s principle is …and having a readiness to avenge all disobedience, once our obedience is fulfilled.
Fourthly, she was prophetic. (verses 28-31)  She saw the big picture…David the next king was about to abort his destiny by committing murder and taking vengeance into his own hands. She somehow knew of David’s prophetic destiny and could clearly see the abortion of it. Her wise counsel not only spared David but it positioned her, when he came into his prophetic destiny…she said REMEMBER ME!
Fifth, she became a queen…This anointing is for you.  According to the word of God, we are priests and kings unto God. This is a place of ruling with the King of Glory. This place is for you, don’t abort it by not knowing how to deal with a fool or foolish people. Your new name today is Abigail…..Shout it out….Abigail, Abigail, Abigail.
Fine Abigail,  Wise Abigail, Humble Abigail, Prophetic Abigail, Queen Abigail.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
